Adult Bible Study and Prayer

MONDAYS AT 7:00PM - Adult Bible
Study
GOD IN AMERICA: The topic is
Religion in America, which is based on the PBS series God in America.
How did religious beliefs shape the origins of the Civil War and President
Abraham Lincoln's action during the conflict? Both southerners and northerners prayed to the same God and
turned to the Bible to argue their cause. In addition to the film segments, presentations
will be given by The Rev. Dr. Paul Cullity of the Wellfleet Congregational Church, The Rev. Dr. David
Powers, retired UCC pastor, The Rev. Sally Norris of The Federated Church of Orleans and Pastor
Wes. (Starting Advent, the topic will be Handel's Messiah as a devotional
guide.)
TUESDAYS AT NOON - The Prayer
Chain
In addition to submitted prayer requests, the session will
consist of prayers for the church, the community, and the world through periods of silent meditation, Scripture
readings, prayers, and reflections. Everyone is welcome. We believe that the prayers of the church are
powerful.

STATEMENT OF
WELCOME
The Orleans United Methodist Church celebrates our
congregation's diversity of ethnicity, race, economic circumstance, age, sexual orientation, family, gender,
gifts and abilities. In accordance with Christ's example, we welcome the full inclusion of all people into the
life and ministries of the church.
We are all in different places on
our spirit journey, and in order to grow, we need to give each other the freedom to be ourselves. We recognize
that attitudes and acts of injustice, discrimination
and violence diminish the gospel of Jesus Christ.
We strive to deepen our
faith, to sustain and expand our fellowship and outreach, and to continue to advocate for justice for
all.
