THE STAINED
GLASS WINDOW
During the period from 1894-1899, the lovely stained glass window in the sanctuary
was erected as a memorial. The panel on the left says "Give us this day our daily bread" and remembers Timothy
(1801-1856) and Ruth (1801-1881) Smith. The panel on the right reads "And he took the cup and gave thanks" and
remembers Oliver Smith (1809-1890) and Mary Paine Smith (1797-1836). Their children were the donors. I was able to
find Mary's grave marker in the old cemetery. It is both one of the most prominent and one of the most poignant
markers there. It reads:
Mary P.
Wife of Oliver Smith
Died March 27, 1836
Age 38
Also her infant daughter
